What is the St. Joe Valley Metronet (SJVM)?
An Indiana nonprofit company and the dark fiber network it manages.
What it is not?
An internet, telephone, data, video, service provider.
What is SJVM desired goal?
To provide readily available, cost-effective access to high-speed telecommunications for local businesses, education and healthcare institutions, and government agencies.
Who started SJVM?
The Metronet was conceived and implemented through a joint partnership of governmental, economic development, business and education entities.
How does the Metronet work?
SJVM places dark single-mode fiber into municipally owned conduit facilities throughout the communities it serves. SJVM then leases this dark fiber to any user or service provider in need. It also provides its municipality partners exclusive access to set amounts of dark fiber. The Metronet is vendor-neutral and is open to all telecommunications service vendors and users who want to subscribe.
Who are the intended beneficiaries?
Any entity, public or private, that requires dark fiber infrastructure.
